Industrial Sensors / FD300A/FD600A Series Hot metal detector/sensor

FD300A/FD600A Series Hot metal detector/sensor

Description

The optical head and detector amplifier are connected via a protected hi temperature glass fiber optic cable, whereby the captured infrared energy is transmitted onto the detector, which is installed at a remote location to better isolate the electronics from the heat source. This approach minimizes detector noise created in the detector electronics, which are caused by elevated temperatures (migrating electrons). The Optical Head location must be maintained at an ambient temperature below 200° C for reliable operation. The Amplifier location must be maintained at an ambient temperature below 50° C for reliable detection and relay output.

Sensors for low temperature (FD300A Series) and medium/high temperature (FD600A Series) are available.

Amplifiers

Select a hood, amplifier, and fiber combination; based on the temperature range and size of the detection object. The temperature range varies depending on the fiber length and distance to the object to be detected. Temperatures shown in the table below are applicable only when the heated material (object) is larger than the detection field of view. If the material is smaller than the detection field, the lowest detectable temperature is higher than shown in the chart.

Optical Head Field of View explained

The Field of View (FOV) can be a critical parameter in the selection process to maintain reliable object detection. If the object to be detected fills or overfills the FOV, there is no issue with repeatable detection or Minimum Resolveable Temperature (MRT).

However if it does not fill the FOV you may want to consider either a Narrow FOV head (please note the temperature shift to higher MRT), or consult the graphs and coefficient (K) calculations <by clicking here> to get a better understanding and estimates of the correct combination of Fibers, heads, and amplifier for your application.

When calculating your best fit; please note the correlation to distance, as relates to the FOV within the cone sensed by the system.
