Dual-Zone Detection

Dual-Zone Detection

Dual-Zone PIR sensors combine horizontal and downward curtains which require simultaneous activation for alarm; so while pets and wildlife will be activating only the downward zone, the sensor will not report an alarm - perfect for use in domestic outdoor applications.

MX-12FRAM Anti-masking

Anti-masking

Protected by sophisticated Anti-Masking technology with near-lens awareness, designed to initiate an alarm if the device is compromised.

FEATURE FOCUS

Near-lens awareness

Criminals are getting more creative in how they defeat security systems, so we got creative too.

Something as ordinary as a clear plastic bottle can blind most outdoor PIR sensors by blocking infrared heat signatures, while remaining invisible to the naked eye. It’s one of the fastest-growing bypass methods in high-risk regions like South Africa. That’s why MX-12FRAM features advanced anti-masking technology with near-lens awareness, continuously scanning the space directly in front of the lens to detect obstructions without compromising normal detection performance.

If it's tampered with, you'll know instantly.

MX-12FRAM Back Tamper

Back tamper

Equipped with both front and back tampers to detect interference or attempted theft of the sensor any time of the day or night.

MX-12FRAM Area masks

Adjustable coverage

MX-12FRAM delivers up to 12m × 180° detection and includes durable, in-device area masks which allow the coverage pattern to be customised to specific site requirements.

MX-12FRAM Designed for wireless

Designed for wireless

MX-12FRAM is battery-operated, making it ideal for locations where providing power is difficult.

Designed for universal compatibility with third-party wireless systems, it integrates easily with existing security management platforms, including access control, CCTV, and perimeter systems.

MX-12FRAM: Anti-masking

What is the MX-12FRAM outdoor PIR sensor?

MX-12FRAM is a fully battery-operated, dual-zone PIR sensor designed for outdoor perimeter intrusion detection. It provides up to 12m detection across a 180° field of view, with independently adjustable left and right detection ranges from 2m to 12m. Its battery-powered design makes it particularly suitable for sites where running power or cabling is difficult or impractical.

How does a dual-zone PIR sensor work?

A dual-zone PIR combines two detection fields: a horizontal zone and a downward zone. An alarm is only triggered when both zones are activated simultaneously. This helps distinguish genuine human intrusion from some sources of unwanted motion, such as pets and wildlife that may only activate the lower detection zone.

Why use a dual-zone PIR for outdoor security?

Outdoor environments can expose conventional PIR sensors to unwanted movement from pets, wildlife and other environmental activity. Dual-zone detection adds another layer of verification by requiring simultaneous activation of the horizontal and downward detection zones, helping reduce nuisance alarms while maintaining perimeter protection.

What is the detection range of the MX-12FRAM?

MX-12FRAM provides up to 12m detection across a 180° field of view. The left and right detection distances can be adjusted independently from 2m to 12m, allowing installers to customise the protected area to suit the layout of a property or perimeter.

Where can an outdoor dual-zone PIR like MX-12FRAM be used?

MX-12FRAM can be used to protect outdoor areas around residential and commercial properties, particularly where perimeter detection is required before an intruder reaches the building. Typical applications include gardens, driveways, entrances, pathways, site boundaries and other external areas where conventional wired installation may be difficult. Battery-operated outdoor dual-zone PIR sensors can also be used in remote or difficult-to-cable-to locations and integrated with wider security systems.

Can the left and right detection areas of MX-12FRAM be adjusted separately?

Yes. MX-12FRAM provides independent range adjustment for the left and right sides, from 2m to 12m. This makes it possible to configure the detection area around specific boundaries, pathways, entrances or other areas of interest rather than simply using a fixed 180° coverage pattern.

How does MX-12FRAM reduce false alarms from pets and wildlife?

MX-12FRAM uses dual-zone detection, combining horizontal and downward detection curtains that must be activated together for an alarm. Smaller animals can activate the lower zone without necessarily activating the horizontal zone, helping prevent some animal movement from generating an alarm. No outdoor PIR can eliminate every potential source of nuisance alarm, so correct positioning, coverage adjustment and installation remain important.

What is anti-masking on an outdoor PIR sensor?

Anti-masking is designed to detect attempts to obstruct the sensor and prevent normal detection. MX-12FRAM uses near-lens awareness to monitor the area directly in front of the sensor for potential obstructions, including clear coverings that can be difficult for conventional detection systems to identify. If masking is detected, the sensor generates an alarm condition.

Can MX-12FRAM detect if someone tries to remove or tamper with the sensor?

Yes. MX-12FRAM incorporates both front and rear tamper protection. These features are designed to detect interference or attempted removal of the sensor, providing additional protection for the detector itself as part of a perimeter security system.

How long does the MX-12FRAM battery last?

MX-12FRAM is powered by a single CR123A battery and provides up to five years of operational life. Its low-current, battery-operated design makes it suitable for locations where installing or maintaining a wired power supply is difficult. Actual battery life can vary depending on operating conditions and system configuration.

Can MX-12FRAM be integrated with wireless security systems?

Definitely! MX-12FRAM is designed for compatibility with third-party wireless systems, making it suitable for applications where wired installation is impractical. It can also be integrated into wider security setups incorporating systems such as CCTV, perimeter protection and other security management equipment.

Is MX-12FRAM suitable for high-risk properties?

Yes. MX-12FRAM is engineered to meet Security Grade 2 standards and incorporates features including dual-zone detection, anti-masking, front and rear tamper protection, pulse count and sensitivity adjustment. This makes it suitable for a range of residential and commercial perimeter security applications where additional protection against intrusion and tampering is required.
