FD-A310C Series


FD-A310C is an optical fiber hot metal detection photo sensor (HMD) that directly detects infrared radiation from heated glass or steel. Glass fiber optic cables with good heat resistance and transmission performance are used in conjunction with the Optical head. The detected infrared rays are transmitted to an amplifier that increase the signal for output. There are two output types available: Mini power relay output and Photo-MOS relay output for AC/DC control.


Amplifiers in this product range should be considered for compatible relay output and required response time; all other parameters are the same between the 2 available models.

Select a Optical Head, amplifier, and fiber combination; based on the temperature range and relay output type. The temperature range varies depending on the fiber length and distance to the object to be detected. Temperatures shown in the table below are applicable only when the heated material (object) is larger than the detection field of view. If the material is smaller than the detection field, the lowest detectable temperature is higher than shown in the chart.

Optical Head Field of View explained

  The Field of View (FOV) can be a critical parameter in the selection process to maintain reliable object detection. If the object to be detected fills or overfills the FOV, there is no issue with repeatable detection or Minimum Resolveable Temperature (MRT).

When calculating your best fit; please note the correlation to distance, as relates to the FOV within the cone sensed by the system.
